Rescue & Shelter Support

Working Together to Help Animals Succeed

Rescue and shelter animals often come with complex histories, big emotions, and unique needs. Foster homes, adopters, and rescue teams are doing incredibly important work, and behavior support is most effective when we work together.

At Best of Behavior, we partner directly with nonprofit rescues and shelters to support animals in foster homes and newly adopted placements using compassionate, science-based methods that prioritize welfare, safety, and long-term success.
Contact us with your needs and we will work together to build successful, long-term adoptions!

A Collaborative Approach with Rescues & Shelters

We believe behavior support works best when trainers, rescues, and caregivers are aligned. When appropriate, we will:
  • Communicate directly with shelter or rescue leadership
  • Coordinate behavior plans with foster coordinators or adoption teams
  • Share progress updates and practical recommendations
  • Help ensure consistency between foster homes, adopters, and the organization

This team-based approach helps reduce returns, improve outcomes, and support the humans caring for these animals.

Reduced-Rate Support for Rescues, Fosters & Adopters

We offer reduced pricing for:
  • Animals currently living in foster homes
  • Fosters needing help with behavior challenges
  • New adopters within the first 30 days of adoption (When contacted by the agency)
  • Rescue organizations seeking behavior guidance or referrals

Our goal is removing barriers to early, effective support.

Behavior Concerns We Commonly Address

Rescue animals may experience:
  • Fear, anxiety, or shutdown behavior
  • Reactivity toward people, dogs, or other animals
  • Resource guarding or handling sensitivity
  • House-training and adjustment challenges
  • Puppy and adolescent behavior in foster settings
  • Cat-to-cat or dog-to-dog household conflict
  • Post-adoption behavior changes after the “honeymoon period”

Early support can prevent escalation and help animals remain successfully placed.

Support for Fosters

Foster homes are on the front lines, and we aim to make their role easier, not more complicated. Foster support may include:
  • One-on-one training or behavior sessions in the foster home
  • Practical management and safety strategies
  • Guidance tailored to foster routines and environments
  • Written summaries or notes to share with rescue teams
  • Ongoing communication with the rescue when appropriate

Support for New Pet Adopters (First 30 Days)

This is for dogs we have previously worked with through the rescue agency, or have been requested to help with by the rescue agency. It is also for people with newly adopted animals with paperwork showing adoption within the past 14 days, who reach out to us directly. The early weeks after adoption are critical. Reduced-rate support for new adopters helps with:
  • Decompression and transition guidance
  • Building routines and expectations
  • Addressing early fear, anxiety, or reactivity
  • Puppy or adolescent challenges
  • Strengthening the human–animal bond

Early intervention supports long-term success and confidence.

Interested in Working Together?

If you’re a rescue, shelter, foster, or recent adopter, we’d love to support you and collaborate with your organization to help animals thrive in their homes. Reduced pricing available for foster-related cases and new adopters.
